Disable Read Receipts on Messenger (PC)
If you’re reading Messenger messages through the Facebook website, then on Chrome you can use an extension called “Social Tools“. Once you’ve installed the extension, click its icon to see all the options it has for you. As you can see, it does a whole lot more than just disabling read receipts in Messenger, and does the same thing for Instagram and Facebook too! To block read receipts in Messenger, simply click the grey ‘Block sending “Seen” to other’ slider under Messenger. While you’re at it, you can also block the typing indicator which lets people know when you’re typing, and also your active status. Firefox has exactly the same extension, Social Tools, which does the job in just the same way.
Disable Read Receipts on Messenger (Android)
If you have notifications from the Messenger app switched on (you can check this under App Info), you can read your Facebook messages by swiping down from the top of your device’s display. It doesn’t matter if it’s a short or long message, you’ll still be able to read it. Reading it this way doesn’t reveal that you’ve read the message Another way to do it is to go into your Messenger app when you’re offline, read the message, then mark it as unread. To mark it as unread, long-press the conversation in your Messenger inbox, press the three-lines icon, then tap “Mark as unread.” Now that you’ve done that, why not find out how to block internet access for specific Android apps. We can also show you how to block websites across all the big browsers, Android and iOS. Image credit: Woman holding an Apple iPhone openin by DepositPhotos
