Colorstrokes is a simple-to-use image editing software (for Mac) that lets you play with colors in every possible way. You can recolor images, create unique color splash photos, bring color to black and white snaps and of course, carry out selective color effect.
Installation
The ColorStrokes app is available in the Mac App Store. All you have to do is to hit up the App Store, search for it and click to purchase and install.
Usage
Once you have started the app, you can quickly load your image by dragging and dropping it into the specified box. The top portion is mostly where you’ll find your loading options, undo/redo, zoom, and compare. The meat of the app, the right side, is where you can adjust what you’re editing, brush and color adjustments, and some photo enhancing options. To begin work, just select “native color” to add a bit of color to your photo. Made a mistake? No problem, just click “Grayscale” to remove a bit of the color. If you made a huge mess, going to “Edit” and “Revert to Original” may do the trick. You can always click “Compare” at the top of the app to see how things are going.
Colorstrokes’ Performance
For simple images, you shouldn’t face any problem with ColorStrokes. However, when working with more complex images, like the Golden Gate Bridge (pictured above), there are times where I can’t get it to detect certain portion of the photo and color it correctly. Other than that, other tools work fine though. While applying the edits, it might cause the app to freeze up for a few seconds, but overall, the performance is good.
Additional Features
Other than selecting coloring, Colorstrokes also offer photo effects. There are three photo effect features (Hard Light, Dreamy, and Soft) that you can use. You also have the ability to add vignette. Colorstrokes is available now on Mac App Store for $2.99.
